Privacy Policy

Hearabout is a community events calendar for the web and iOS that helps people find local public events. This policy explains what information Hearabout collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Hearabout mobile app and the Hearabout website (together, the “Service”).

Information we collect

Account information. You can browse events without an account. If you sign in, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider — we never see your password, and we do not post to your social accounts.

Content you provide. If you post an event, subscribe to an organization’s calendar, or claim an organization listing, we store that content and associate it with your account.

Location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s approximate location to show events near you. Location is used on your device to sort and display nearby events; we do not build a history of the places you go. You can decline or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings, and the app will fall back to a default area.

Technical information. Like most online services, our infrastructure providers process basic technical data (such as IP address and device type) as part of operating the Service, including for security and abuse prevention.

How we use information

We use the information above to operate the Service: signing you in, showing events near you, saving your subscriptions, publishing events you post, and keeping the Service secure. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Where your data lives

Account data and content are stored with Supabase, our backend and authentication provider. The website is hosted on Netlify. If you sign in with Google or Facebook, those providers handle the sign-in step under their own privacy policies.

Cookies and local storage

Hearabout does not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking. Because of that, you won’t see a cookie consent banner — there is nothing optional to consent to.

The website stores one thing in your browser’s local storage: your sign-in session, so you stay logged in between visits. This is strictly necessary to provide the Service, exists only if you sign in, and is removed when you sign out (you can also clear it any time through your browser’s site-data settings).

Two third-party services are involved in delivering pages: map images are loaded from OpenStreetMap, whose servers receive your IP address as part of serving the tiles (as any image host does), and organizers purchasing a featured listing on the website are taken to Stripe’s checkout page, where Stripe’s own privacy policy applies. Neither sets tracking cookies on hearabout.app.

We count activity like event views and saves in aggregate to show organizers how their listings perform. These are counts, not profiles — they are not tied to advertising identifiers and are not shared with any advertising or analytics company.

Sharing

Events you post are public — that is the point of posting them. Beyond that, we share personal information only with the service providers named above as needed to run the Service, or if required by law.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information for as long as you have an account. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time — see our data deletion instructions. We will complete deletion requests within 30 days.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date above and post the revised version here.
